About our course Dutch for medical staff.

Delivering good care starts with a proper conversation. You want to reassure your patients, give them clear information about their state of health and ask them the right questions in order to make the correct diagnosis. You want your patients to feel they are in safe, capable hands.

But how do you do that when they don’t speak the same language as you?

    Could this be for you?

You already have command of Dutch to an intermediary level. That means you already speak Dutch reasonably effortlessly in familiar situations. You are a nurse in a hospital or assisted living centre.  You want to be able to hold conversations in Dutch, and give patients advice, confidence, reassurance and support. If you aim to lend an ear, it is important that you understand what the patient is saying so that you can take the appropriate action.

This course was developed for and by medical staff. That means you will learn precisely those skills you need to do your job well.

    Customised e-learning?

Absolutely! The course includes an e-learning platform with a wealth of information in addition to the hours with the trainer. The platform is designed specifically for medical professionals. You can use it to practice on your own between lessons. In the lessons themselves, we also pay a lot of attention to practice and speaking.

You don’t just learn lists of words, you learn how to use those words correctly in sentences. This course is about more than just general medical language use.

TESTIMONIALS

What our clients, trainers and trainees say.

During my Spuage skills. We followed the banish course with Claudio, we started with a lot of communication to access and develop my langook as a guide, especially for the grammar, but added plenty of work and hobby related topics. I find it easier to digest grammar when I can connect it to something useful and interesting. The course was fully adapted to my learning preferences! Now after having taken several Spanish courses at BLCC, it is much easier for me to follow conversations. While English is still the main language for doing business, I've found that offering Spanish as communication channel usually improves the relationship with my clients in Latin America.

I'd like to thank BLCC for giving me the opportunity to improve my rather modest Dutch skills. A special "thank you" goes to the gorgeous mentors I've had the pleasure to share this journey with: heel erg bedankt to Siska and Cynthia! For the enormous help, guidance and enthusiasm you brought to all the classes we had together this past year. If today I feel much more confident with speaking to random strangers, at the Delhaize and sometimes even at the coffee machine at work it's only thanks to your work!
Feeling more confident with speaking in Dutch
Thanks to the virtual teaching sessions via Webex, I can see my coach. This kind of digital learning is efficient because my teacher can immediately help me when issues arise. If I have to do exercises on the e-learning platform and I encounter difficulties, I just share my screen with my teacher and discuss them. Honestly, it is amazing to have this virtual alternative during this period of COVID-19 and my teacher is excellent and fun! Even outside of my virtual lessons, I am using the e-learning platform on my phone before I go to sleep or whenever I have some calm moments.
A very efficient way of language learning.
I find it important to speak the language of the country where I’m working so I can hold a simple conversation in that language with my employees. My language teacher is very professional. She adapts the lessons to suit my learning style.
Adapted lessons to my learning style.
At the start of the English course, I felt a mix of stress and motivation to improve my English, especially my pronunciation. The lessons involved a lot of work, particularly challenging grammar exercises that required a significant amount of time. Building confidence in speaking English was crucial to me, and my trainer did an excellent job correcting me patiently, which has made me feel more comfortable now. Despite occasional distractions, we mainly stayed focused on the goal. My trainer provided me with valuable tips and tricks, such as listening to BBC 6 minutes English and BBC news, which I plan to continue doing regularly. With each lesson, my motivation grew, and I managed to launch my English project successfully.
For me it was of the utmost importance to get confidence to talk English.
