Four signs that you need English language coaching

Sometimes, we all need a coach. Whether that is a sports coach, a business coach or a language coach, a coach should provide a listening ear, but also stimulate and challenge you to guide you towards your goals in order to help you unlock your potential.

To illustrate, according to John Whitmore, who was a pioneer of the executive coaching industry, an author, and a British racing driver, “Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their growth.

Do you think that you could do with a language coach?

Here are four signs that tell you if you need a coach for your English.

  • Do you feel that your English language skills aren’t quite good enough? Do you lack confidence in English?

  • Do you lack fluency, and you know all the right words afterwards, but you struggle during a conversation in English to find your words?

  • Do you hate having a phone conversation in English and you try everything to avoid it? And when asked to go to a meeting in English you stress about it, and you keep quiet during the meeting as you are not sure about how you should say what you want to say?

Or even if the meeting itself is no problem for you as it concerns your area of expertise, but what about the social talk before or after the meeting? And then there is that presentation that you are supposed to do in English which is really worrying you?

Perhaps in all of the above situations you’re also having problems with what is being said by the other participants in the meetings, the other person on the phone, the questions being asked after the presentation…… and so on.

  • Do you feel very unsure about writing that e-mail or report or other (business) communication in English? Maybe you are using an online translation engine, but how do you know that your message is exactly what you intended it to be?

This is where an English language coach can help you to move you forward (again).

How can a good language coach help you with your English?

Your coach will:

  • First of all, identify exactly where you are now and where you need to be. Which skills or what language level do you need? What is it that you need to be able to do?

  • Set realistic goals and formulate and commit to an action plan

  • Work with you in the way that is best suited to you. How do you learn best?

  • Make you feel comfortable because that will help you to make progress.

  • But also push and stimulate you to make sure that you reach your required goals

  • Move you forward and overcome fears and challenges

  • Help you perform and succeed!
